Blog #27- The Crack Shack- Las Vegas: Restaurant Review

Las Vegas is a food lovers dream. Everywhere you turn, there are restaurants and eateries from every corner of the globe. Interestingly enough, this was not always the case. It was only in the 90’s that the big name, celebrity  chefs generated some excitement over international cuisines and fine fare sparking a foodie scene that was practically non-existent up through the 80’s. If you include the “suburbs” (Sumerlin and Henderson) your head will spin with options for eating out. I am not complaining! There is literally no type of food that you cannot find here and that’s incredible. However, while on the strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) it can be hard to find a decently priced meal if you are not interested in eating at Taco Bell or Fat Burger. That is why I would like to present to you “The Crack Shack- Las Vegas”, located inside Park MGM. There is a giant chicken out front with a sign asking people not to sit on it so you can’t miss it.

The Crack Shack is the perfect remedy to a late night hang in Sin City, or just a delicious treat (and yes, it will be something to enjoy on your “cheat day”). This is basically a glorified fried chicken joint, and I don’t say that sarcastically. This fried chicken is, in fact, glorious. You will see the term “Jidori chicken” on the menu and what this means is, it is a mixed breed, domestic, free range chicken, that is delivered the same day as slaughter. I realize that the “word” slaughter could bring up some unpleasant images, but what this actually means is that the utmost freshness is ensured. You’ll be hard pressed to find this level of quality at a fried chicken establishment.

I’d like to feature the sandwich I ate: SeƱor Croque.

This is basically a nice, thick piece of fried, jidori chicken, bacon, a fried egg and cheddar cheese, sandwiched between 2 delectable slices of a brioche bun. But wait, there’s more. What makes this so stand out, you ask? Well, besides the meat itself, it is the miso maple butter that is slathered on the bread before enclosing all of that fried, melty, savory goodness. The subtle sweetness of the miso maple flavor in contrast to the sharpness of the cheddar and the saltiness of the bacon provided the most divine balance. It’s no surprise that this place is called the “Crack Shack” because when something is that good, it’s totally addicting. The reason why I allowed myself that indulgence was not because I was hungover, but because I had walked the entire length of the strip and back (from Sahara to Tropicana) which is about 6 miles and that was my treat for completing the journey! And, if I remember correctly, the sandwich was a mere $13.00, which, for the strip (and for the quality), is a steal. So, take it from me, the walk is well worth it (so cool to see everything on the strip by foot!), and the sandwich is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Enjoy the prize,  you earned it!
